This is a quick guide showcasing some of the better mods I've found for increasing the difficulty of the game. Modding is still in its infancy and many of these mods make basic yet very impactful changes. None of the mods listed are mine and all credit goes to the authors listed. Unless otherwise specified, all mods can be used with all difficulties to fine tune your definition of a challenging game.

Enemy Randomization by Bardblue
DivinityDivinity Original Sin 2 Mod

If you don't get any other difficulty mod, I strongly recommend this one. What this mod does is simple: At the beginning of each fight, all enemies are given a random and permanent buff. These buffs can range from things like haste to vampiric to additional skills or simple magic or physical armor increases. Enemies also have a small chance to essentially level up to a champion version of themselves gaining stronger buffs and having a higher chance to drop rarer loot. This mod increases difficulty not by simply bloating stats but by changing the strengths and abilities of enemies. It's also random so if you die and reload a save, you won't get the same monsters the second time. You'll always have to find a way to win the fight as it presents itself. Bardblue is also one of the leading modders of the fledgling DoS:2 modding community.

  1. Notable Game Mods (Divinity: Original Sin). Increased Bodybuilding and Willpower by 2 for NPCs that had at least 1 point in either.
  2. Divinity: Original Sin 2 has been making waves since before its release. From absolutely smashing its Kickstarter goals to launching with exceptional reviews and praise, it is poised to be one of the most popular games of 2017. A prolific modding community is already growing, with tons of big.

One of the first difficulty mods available, this mod simply adds MORE enemies to every encounter. It will not duplicate bosses but you'll see more of basic enemies. It's surprising how much your tactics have to change when there's more and differently positioned NPCs. This mod does NOT reduce combat xp so it's best combined with one of the below mods by the same author:

XP Gain Nerfed or Combat XP Rebalanced by Reveurr

XP Gain Nerfed reduces the xp you get from killing monsters by 50%. Combat XP Rebalanced reduces it by 75% Use one or the other not both. Both of these mods are designed to reduce overleveling caused by adding more spawns from the previous mod. That mod is NOT, however, required to use this one if you simply want to lower overall XP gain.

Unlike More Monsters' Spawns which adds monsters to existing battle scenes, this mod adds MORE battles - enemies where there weren't any before. Please note that this mod is still in early development and only Act 1 is completed. You will probably want to use one of the above XP nerfs to prevent being overleveled.

Tougher Bosses by Reveurr

This is a stat inflation mod. What it does is very simple. It increases Physical, Magical, and Vitality of all boss enemies by a factor of 5. If they had 100 health before, they will have 500 now. While stat inflation is generally the least desirable way to increase difficulty, I'm including this mod because bosses often have their own special AI and skills already..the primary problem is that they die too quickly. This mod only affects boss characters. Please be aware that the description page includes a list of what the author considers to be a boss and contains spoilers because of that.

The following mods are not difficulty mods. However, they are fairly balanced in my educated yet subjective opinion and deal with Quality of Life issues or are simply fun.

Tidy Skillbars by Xzodia

This may have been the first DoS:2 mod. It's certainly the first one I used. It simply makes it so items like arrows, bedrolls, potions, and grenades aren't automatically added to your skillbar. Simple and effective. In theory this mod doesn't disable achievements. GoG users or those who like all their mods in the same format will want to use the pak version.

This is strictly not a difficulty mod. If anything it may make some aspects of the game ever so slightly easier. It can be combined with the above difficulty mods. What it does is change the scaling of the game. Currently, the game scales exponentially. That leads to some issues in the late game like a single level making a massive difference in party or enemy strength or having to replace your sweet Divine gear with gray vendor trash 2 levels later. This mod simply smooths out that scaling. Literally all numbers are affected from health to damage to armor to proc chance on items. Enemies who are a few levels below you will still be a threat while ones who are a few levels above you won't have thousands more health and armor than you. That sweet crossbow you found can be kept for longer. It comes in several different varieties from scaling designed to mimic DoS:EE to basically no scaling at all. While this mod is simple, what it does is complex. Be patient if you see a few inconsistencies. Be prepared for a very different game.

Elemental Daggers by Firescythe1

This mod adds elemental variants of daggers to the game. For example, Daggers that deal fire instead of physical damage. All 5 elements are represented. There are two versions of the mod - one where the daggers scale with and require Finesse and one where they scale with and require Intelligence. They do not replace Physical daggers. They have a chance for the same enchants as any other daggers. They can backstab. Scoundrel and Warfare skills work with these daggers and those abilities will deal the damage type of the dagger. Their damage will scale with the stat you choose and the proper elemental school.

This mod greatly increases the variety of procs and abilities of all random gear. Think Diablo. All enchants are scaled to your level so I don't feel the balance gets out of whack and it makes getting a new piece of gear more interesting and exciting than simple damage numbers.

Fast Run Speed by Bardblue

DoS:2 is a beautiful game. I love the artistic style, directing and colors..but dear god, Lizard..can you walk any slower?? This mod increases your out of combat run speed by a reasonable 30%. It's a nice balance between not feeling like you're waiting forever for your team to catch up yet not walking like a fast forwarded chipmunk. It's hard to play without this one once you try it.

Will these mods disable Achievements?

For the most part, yes.

Can/Should I use all of the Difficulty mods together?

You can, yes, if you're a glutton for punishment.

How do I install mods?

How can the answer be improved? Enable wifi on dell laptop. This icon means that the wireless antenna is on, but you are not connected to a wireless network. For information on setting up and connecting to your wireless network, refer to the Dell Knowledge Base article Wireless Networking for the Home for Windows 10. Most of these mods come in a pak format. Download the file and and unzip the pak into your C:UsersYourNameDocumentsLarian StudiosDivinity Original Sin 2Mods folder. Then activate the mod via the main menu in game. Read the description page for additional details.

I heard you can install mods WITHOUT disabling achievements?

Divinity Original Sin 2 Modules

It's technically possible. It involves extracting the pak file and placing it directly in the game files. Someone will make a video showing how to do it someday. In the mean time, take solace in the fact that if you're using any/all of the above Difficulty mods in your playthrough you actually beat a harder game than the achievement warranted.

ZOMG! I downloaded every one of these files and my dual Lonewolf Rangers with 30 points in Warfare still destroy everything!

That's not a question and this is my shocked face : Larian specifically designed the game to be broken if you try hard enough to break it. We could make a mod that neuters Lonewolf (I use a personal mod that keeps all the bonuses yet still limits you to 10 points in skills and 40 points in stats) but really, self control is key here.
